Man held for wife's murder

AIZAWL: A 33-year-old man from Kolasib town on the Mizoram-Assam border was arrested on Tuesday night from Aizawl for allegedly murdering his wife on Sunday.

Police said investigation revealed that Vanlalhmuaka and his wife, C Lalthanpuii, had a heated argument on Sunday which was overheard by their neighbour. The neighbour, a woman, rushed to the couple's home after hearing a loud thud and found Lalthanpuii unsteady on her feet. The deceased reportedly told the woman that she could not see anything and tried to hold on to the latter for support after which she passed out.

"The lone witness to the scuffle was the couple's two-year-old daughter who reportedly said that her father had beaten up her mother," police said. The husband, however, maintained that his wife had a fall and hurt her head on the floor. She succumbed to her injuries on Monday.
