Delhi gang-rape: DCP Chhaya Sharma transferred to Mizoram

New Delhi: While the Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar maintained few days back that he would not resign even after two gruesome rapes in the capital, two of his sub-ordinates had to bear the brunt of public pressure as they were removed from their positions. DCP, South Delhi, Chhaya Sharma has been transferred to Mizoram in the wake of gruesome Delhi gang-rape incident that raked massive nation-wide protests.

DCP Prabhakar was also shunted to the security contingent of the prime minister after the recent rape and brutalization of a five-year-old girl in Gandhi Nagar area of East Delhi. After the rape, commoners and supporters of the Aam Admi Party (AAP) carried out protest marches, demanding removal of Commissioner Neeraj Kumar.

The rape of the five year old drew ire of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde. They both pulled up the Delhi Police for not able to curb crime against women in the national capital.

Additional CP Sanjeev Kumar has also been sent to PM’s security. DCP South Chhaya Sharma and DCP (Head Quarter) Vivek Kishore have been relieved of duty as they would be transferred to Mizoram. BS Jaiswal would replace Sharma as DCP South, while Ajay Kumar would be DCP East.
