BSF reviews security along India-Bangladesh border

BSF director general Subhash Joshi has reviewed the security and border management of the India-Bangladesh border in Karimganj district of Assam and Mizoram.

Joshi visited the border areas in Mizoram on Thursday and the border areas in Karimganj district of Assam on Wednesday. He was accompanied by additional DG (East) RK Ponoth and IG BSF (Mizoram and Cachar frontier) AC Thapliyal.

Addressing BSF jawans, he exhorted them to maintain vigil on the border and ensure security of the border and the local population there. He said the BSF personnel should be tough while dealing with smugglers and anti-national elements, but while dealing with the border population, the personnel should be humane and must extend all help to win their hearts, he said. Joshi appreciated the civic action programme taken up by BSF Mizoram and Cachar Frontier.

On Wednesday, Joshi met brigadier general AVM Gulam Mustafa, regional commander (northeast region) of Border Guard Bangladesh as well as other senior officers of Bangladesh at Sutarkandi.

The DG said this year is being observed as 'The Year of BSF Jawans'. He said all out efforts will be made during the year to resolve the problems of jawans and provide them with better living conditions on border outposts.
