Former Mizoram minister Lalthlengliana dead

Former minister and opposition Mizo National Front legislator B Lalthlengliana died at the Civil Hospital here this morning, family sources said. Lalthlengliana was 66 and is survived by his wife Chawngpari and six children.
Lalthlengliana who joined active politics in October, 1986, unsuccessfully contested the state assembly polls in 1987 from Phuldungsei constituency as an official candidate of the MNF.
He was elected from Sateek seat in 1993 and was re-elected from the same seat in 1998 and became a minister of state.
He was elevated to cabinet rank after the MNF snapped ties with its junior partner the Mizoram People's Conference in December 1999.
He was re-elected in the assembly polls in 2003 from the same seat and continued to become a minister holding portfolios like Land Revenue, Industries and Fisheries.
Though the MNF was completed routed in the 2008 assembly polls when even chief minister Zoramthanga lost from two seats, Lalthlengliana was elected from Tuipui East constituency along with two other MNF nominees.
Born on April 20, 1947 at Farkawn village on the Mizoram-Myanmar border, Lalthlengliana held a master degrees in History and Political Science and was a college teacher by profession.
