Two Myanmarese nationals held for gangrape

Aizawl, Oct 31 : Vaivakawn police today arrested two Myanmarese nationals on charges of gangraping a local woman at Rangvamual here on Monday evening.

The woman, an egg-vendor from Thuampui locality, lodged a complaint in Vaivakawn police station on Tuesday that she had been gangraped by two unidentified men while walking home from Rangvamual around 1700 pm on October 25.

Police arrested two Myanmarese nationals--identified as Lalchawiliana(19), and Vanlalpekmuana(18). They were temporarily residing at Vaivakawn Zonhnuai locality.

The duo allegedly dragged the woman below the road and raped her.

Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (Mizo women organisation) branch of Zuangtui strongly condemned the rape of its member by Myanmarese nationals. The women organisation further demanded that the state government flush out all foreigners from Mizoram in order to ''decrease crime rates.''
