Mizoram plea on missionaries

Silchar, Sept. 23 : Mizoram home minister R. Lalzirliana has written to his Madhya Pradesh counterpart Babulal Gaur seeking immediate lifting of all cases against five Mizo missionaries, who were arrested over a week ago in Sanawad town in that state, on charges of converting Hindus.
The missionaries, belonging to KTP churches, were granted bail on Tuesday after they spent four days in judicial custody and shifted to a Christian mission at Kanapur in the state.
Lalzirliana wrote to Gaur asking for the “acquittal” of the five missionaries, who were arrested after a resident of Khargon in Madhya Pradesh accused them of offering Rs 1 lakh to a few Hindus with a view to convert them to Christianity.
Speaking to the correspondent here today over phone from Aizawl, Lalzirliana, however, said he was yet to receive a reply to his letter sent on Friday pleading for the withdrawal of all cases against the five missionaries.
The home minister wrote, “Christians are never taught to resort to using any form of material or financial incentives in their mission works, and I assure you that the missionaries never use such forms of enticement and allurement even in the future.”
