The chairman of the committee, Lalrinmawia Ralte, who is also Parliamntary Secretary for Home said that the set date is tentative. He hoped that the Brus who belong to Mizoram would now return home willingly and resume their normal life.
Ralte said that the Union Home Ministry wanted the Bru repartriation to be completed and had asked both the Governments of Tripura and Mizoram to coordinate their efforts to solve the issue once and for all. Represemtatives of the two governments will be meeting next week.
The return will be arranged by the deputy commissioner of Mamit District, the place where the Brus belong. Ralte said that he hoped this time the mission would not be disturbed by vested interests who did not want the Mizoram Brus to return to their homes.
He said that a few do trickle in on their own but for the repartriation the facilitation camps will be upgraded while the returnees would be properly identified as bonafide residents of the State who had fled during a crisis.
