Drugs seized in Mizoram

Mizoram Excise and Narcotics officials today seized 15,000 tablets of Methamphetamine, reportedly smuggled from Myanmar, and arrested a Myanmarse national in this connection.

Commissioner of Excise and Narcotics L. Hmunsanga told PTI that the contraband was seized from a house in Ramthar Veng locality where Lalrimawia (42), a resident of Haimual village in Myanmar, was arrested.

Hmunsanga said the seized contraband was worth around Rs 37.5 lakh in the local market.

The accused was booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

Methamphetamine, also known as 'speed pill' or just 'Meth', is an extremely dangerous drug and easily addicted by even first-time users made from the infamous pseudo-ephedrine, a clinical drug legally manufactured in India and extensively smuggled to Myanmar via Mizoram and other north eastern states.
