AGARTALA: Tripura Chief Minister ManikSarkar has sought intervention of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for repatriation of over 37,000 internally displaced people from Reang community from neighbouringMizoram who took shelter in Tripura 15 years ago.

Sarkar met Singh at his official residence yesterday and stated that the Reangs had migrated from Mizoram due to ethnic conflict 15 years ago and took refuge in Tripura which gave rise to various socio-economic and law and order problems in the state, a press statement issued here said.

"Prime minister's help is solicited, so that these families are repatriated with dignity at the earliest to their places of original residence in Mizoram", the chief said in a memorandum.
