Congress-ruled Mizoram finds it tough to implement food scheme

AIZAWL: Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla today said that the Food Security scheme would not be implemented in this Congress-ruled state because of "financial constraints".

"It will be impossible to take up the scheme before the coming Assembly polls due by the end of the year because of financial constraints and unless the Centre provides funds for it," Thanhawla told reporters here.

The Chief Minister returned to Aizawl yesterday after attending a meeting of Congress chief ministers on the Food Security Scheme, at her residence in Delhi.

He said that he had already spoken out in the meeting that it would be impossible to implement the scheme in the state without the Centre's assistance.
