Promise to post teachers end agitations in Mizoram

The Lal Thanhawla government has agreed to post more teachers to fill the gap in different schools in Mamit and Serchhip, ending four days of agitation in the two district capitals today.

Sources said following a meeting of Mamit headquarters Mizo Zirlai Pawl (students' association) and education department officials at Mamit on Tuesday night, the government agreed to post English teacher and general teacher in Government Mamit High School.

The government also promised to post teachers at Govt Mamit HSS, Government Mamit College and three primary and upper primary schools outside Mamit town to ease teachers' shortage.

"Even though the government has not met with our cent per cent demand, we have agreed to call off the agitations as the move solves the teachers' shortage to some extent," said Mamit MZP secretary Z D Lalremruata.

Meanwhile, the students of Serchhip HSS too called off their boycott of classes today after the government made arrangement for posting of history and mathematics teachers at the school.
