Sources said lains naik Lalnunmawia, 30, a resident of Kolasib in Mizoram, was shot on his abdomen by his colleague identified as Bitul Mech, hailing from Cachar district, with 9mm pistol, while he was asleep in the barrack at Hamrem in Karbi Anglong district.
Earlier on Sunday evening, the two had engaged in heated argument. Sources said the Assam police allegedly informed the victim's family around 4:00 PM on Monday.
The Assam police informed his relatives who went to take home his mortal remains that the accused had been arrested and was under their custody.
After postmortem at Diphu Hospital today, the mortal remains of Lalnunmawia was brought to his Kolasib home. Lalnunmawia is survived by his wife and one daughter.
