Aizawl, Feb 27:
Mizoram Chief Secretary on Wednesday launched the
statewide Weekly Iron and Folic Acid Supplementation Scheme (WIFS) for
youth, an official statement said.
The main objective
of the WIFS was reduction of anaemia. There were 56 per cent young
females and 30.2 per cent males suffering from anaemia in the country,
the statement said.
All students of upper primary to
higher secondary schools, including government-aided schools and
dropouts would be provided the iron tablets every week under the
programme through anganwadis.
They would also be
provided Albendazole, an anti-worm drug in February and August annually,
the statement said, adding that Mizoram was the first north eastern
state to launch the programme.
