A total of 473 infants in Mizoram died before their first birthday
between April and December last year, while 10 mothers died during
childbirth, health officials were told at the third-quarter National
Health Mission review on Tuesday.
The review found that 89 per cent of all deliveries during the same period were institutional deliveries.
Health Minister Lal Thanzara said officials and staff must work harder to bring down infant death rates.
According to the Sample Registration System Survey report released
in 2012 the death rate of infants less than a year old in Mizoram stood
at 35 deaths for every 1,000 births.
