Mizo govt rejects resignation

Silchar, June 23 : The Mizoram government has rejected its principal legal adviser P. Chakravarty’s resignation from his post.

The media secretary, L.R. Sailo, confirmed over telephone this evening that the government had issued official instruction to Chakravarty to rejoin his post.

He resigned from his job on Wednesday after the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) staged a demonstration in front of his office in Aizwal, against his re-appointment to the post of principal legal adviser to the Congress government for the fourth time.

Chakravarty had retired as law secretary to the Mizoram government in 2011 following which the government appointed him as the state’s first-ever principal legal adviser in the same year.

In November 2011, he was given a six-month extension as the principal legal official. The state government awarded him his third extension in April for a month.

Asked whether he would join the post, Chakravarty said, “I am yet to decide.”
